A typophotobook [2013]
Kafka was, above all, an artist, as Vladimir Nabokov insightfully notes in his analysis of The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka. His works transcend simple storytelling, delving deeply into the human condition and the unsettling, often surreal alienation experienced by his characters. In our examination of two of his most iconic works, The Trial and The Metamorphosis, we focused on the profound moments where the protagonists become estranged from their surroundings and their grasp on reality begins to fracture. This alienation, a hallmark of Kafka's writing, is not only brought to life through narrative but has been further emphasized in our study using innovative typographic stylistic devices. These devices aim to make the disconnection and existential disquiet not only visible to the reader but also tangible and audible, creating an immersive experience. Through this approach, we strive to highlight Kafka's unparalleled ability to evoke the complexities of the human psyche and the fragmented realities his characters inhabit, reinforcing his legacy as a masterful and deeply introspective artist.
